International Sushi Day ~ June 18th

Sushi (すし、寿司, 鮨, 鮓, 寿斗, 寿し, 壽司?) is a food of Japanese origin consisting of cooked vinegared rice (shari) combined with other ingredients (neta). Neta and forms of sushi presentation vary, but the ingredient which all sushi have in common is shari. The most common neta is seafood.
Raw meat sliced and served by itself is sashimi.

I have created a few fun sushi recipes for you to make with your kids (and they will eat them too)!

Breakfast Sushi
flour tortillas
shredded cheddar cheese
scrambled eggs
sausage links

Sprinkle cheese on a tortilla and melt it in the microwave.  Spoon eggs over the cheese and place a sausage link down the middle.  Roll the tortilla up and slice.

Sushi Sandwiches
flour tortillas
Miracle Whip
turkey, Ham or Roast Beef lunch meat
cheese sticks

Spread Miracle Whip on a tortilla and top with your lunch meat.  Place a cheese stick down the middle and roll up and then slice.

Sushi Snack
flour tortillas
cream cheese
ham
dill pickle spears

Spread cream cheese on tortilla and top with ham.  Place a pickle spear down the center, roll up and slice.  (My husband uses mustard instead of cream cheese.)

Sushi Dessert

This recipe is from Family Fun magazine and is made out of Rice Krispies.  Yum!  Here is the link: http://familyfun.go.com/recipes/mock-sushi-687463/

Enjoy!
