Tie Dye Fun

 

So we started with our socks and bandanas.  Traditional tie dying. 

On to a t-shirt.If you band your shirt like this it will end up having a strip effect like this.

THEN....we got creative.  We put various colors of dye in spray bottles.  We masked some fun patriotic shapes with sticky foamies and I even cut fun shapes out of contact paper with my Silhoutte die cut machine.
We sprayed around the stencils to create a spatter of color and then revealed the white shape underneath.

  Lots of fun.  The kids can't wait to wear them for the 4th.  We made our own dye with Rit dye, but Wal-mart sells a fun kit by Tulip for both of these methods.  It runs about $10, but you get 4-5 colors.

Homemade Bomb Pops-National Bomb Pop Day, June 30th

I love Bomb Pops!  From the very first one I had at the local golf course as a kid, I was hooked.  They are patriotic, a perfect combination of red, white and blue. 

We decided to try to create our own.

We started with cranberry juice.  Fill a 9X13 inch pan with 12 plastic solo cups.

Fill the cup with about 1 inch of cranberry juice.  Freeze.

Fill another inch with 7up or Lemonade. Add popsicle sticks.  Freeze.

Once that layer is frozen, add blue Hawaiian Punch.  Freeze for a final time.

YUM, and enjoy.

Ball Point Pen Birthday, June 10th

In 1945 the first ball point pen was invented.  It was over $12 to purchase one in 1945.  Today you can get lots of varieties and even embellish your own. 

With another birthday upon us, the 4th of July, I thought we should make some fun pens today to have around the house.  We attached ribbon streamers with duct tape and even some blow horns. 

They resemble a sparkler!

We just celebrated Drawing Day with a fun craft for pencils using duct tape. I thought it was worth reposting, because my girls have been making them on pencils and pens. Are your kids into duct tape crafts yet? You can find all sorts of fun patterns at Wal-mart, Michaels and Hobby Lobby. My daughter, Maddie, made this super fun duct tape flower pencil. It's super easy very cute.

First you cut several duct tape rectangles.

Then fold one corner over so there is still tape revealed.

Simply make several of these and wrap them around the eraser side of the pencil to form a rose.

Now, go out and embellish those ball point pens, and be thankful that you can get a whole pack of them for $1 instead of $12 each in 1945.
