The next step was to cut the wooden dowel rod. After a few cuts, I decided 15 inches was a good size. We chose to cover our wooden dowel rod with white Duck tape (since my kids are now so into Duck tape after Amy has introduced all the Duct tape crafts to them). You could also stain the stick, paint it or glue a ribbon to it. Then you need to put the wooden dowel rod into the center of the styrofoam in the bucket and then center the ball of styrofoam on the top of the dowel. (It is okay if you don't get it right the first time, just take it off and try again.)
Now it is time to start adding the lollipops. You want to do this in a stair stepped arrangement in order to hide as much styrofoam as possible.
After a trip to Target to get the super large bag of lollipops we were able to complete our project. Last steps were to tie on a bow and put the glass pebbles in the bucket so that the topiary did not fall.
Once it is complete, go ahead and let your kids enjoy a lollipop. After all it is National Lollipop Day!
such a cute idea! It would be great at a kids birthday party also. I found your link at Tip Me Tuesday.

Love it. Thinking of making some for a birthday party. How long did it take you to make?
ReplyDeleteI made this awhile back, so I can't remember exactly, but I would say it was around a half hour.
ReplyDeleteWhat size of the styrofoam ball did you use?
ReplyDeleteI believe the styrofoam ball was 6 inches in diameter. If I make one again, I will use a smaller ball. It got a little top heavy once all the lollipops were in it.
