Father's Day

What dad or grandpa wouldn't want a Mustache Mug!
When you tip the mug it looks like dad is wearing a mustache.
Very fun for Father's Day, and are available through Mulberry Creek Embellishments, or at the mommyshop in Overland Park at 149th and Metcalf.

Strawberry Lemonade Slush

June is Lemon and Mango Month

Enjoy this sweet lemon treat!

1 (12 oz) frozen lemonade concentrate (pink lemonade works too)
1 lemonade can of water
2 lemonade cans of ice
2 lemonade cans of frozen strawberries

Pour all the ingredients in your blender and blend until smooth and enjoy!

If you have any leftovers, pour them into a popsicle maker and freeze for a sweet treat on another day!  (You can also use ice cube trays with tooth picks for holders)

National Camping Month - June

Camping Food
Howdy, campers!  My 10 year old daughter, Maddie, and I recently went on a Girl Scout camping trip.  It conjured up memories of when my sister and I went to Girl Scout camp just a few (20+) years ago.  In honor of National Camping Month I thought I would share a few fun recipes and activities we did on our campout. Don't worry, if the thought of camping outdoors is not appealing to you, these are perfect activities for your backyard, too.  Don't forget that June 25th is the Great American Backyard Campout.  You can start planning a fun experience for your kids now.

Gorp Galore
All of the girls brought their favorite snack to make a fun snack mix called Gorp.  It was a buffet of healthy and not-so-healthy.  This is a fun activity that the girls created and took on hikes.

Banana Boats
An all time favorite.
Ingredients:
chocolate chips
bananas
graham crackers

Slit the banana down the center.  Slice the banana while it is still inside the peel.  Stuff with chocolate chips and cook over heat.
NEW IDEA:   We ran out of spoons to eat our banana boat, so we had to improvise.  We happened to have lots of graham crackers from the s'mores so we hulled out the boat with our graham crackers.  Delicious!

English Muffin Wood Fired Pizza
The flavor of a pizza over the grill, is awesome and unique.  We set it up buffet style so they could make their own.  We covered a pan with aluminum foil and cooked them over the fire.

Lettuce Boats
Ingredients:
Romaine Lettuce
Dressing
Carrots
Celery
Cucumbers
Tomatoes
Fill a leaf of lettuce with lots of fun veggies.  Squirt your favorite dressings and roll it up.  yum!

National Go Barefoot Day, June 1st

The beginning of summer is upon us, and what better way to kick off the summer than a spa party for your friends.  This could be an impromtu party on the patio, or you could send out a fun invitation in the shape of a flip flop.

Have everyone bring a foot soak tub, or we got these simple dish pans at the Dollar Tree for, yes, $1.

Here are a couple of recipes for homemade foot soaks, or you can purchase some fabulous soaks from Lemongrass Spa, Bath and Body Works, or other fun stores.

Lemon Foot Soak (It is Lemon and Mango Month)
1 cup lemon juice
3 TBS olive oil
1/4 cup milk
Mix together well in a small bowl then add to 1 gallon of water and soak feet.

Simple Soaks
1 part Epsom salts
1 part Baking soda
drops of choice essential oils (optional)

Have the girls scavenge the yard for fresh flower petals, or grab a bouquet from your local supermarket.  Fill the tub with the flowers to add extra fragrance and natural oils.  For a fun foot massage, add some marbles or smooth stones or pebbles to your soak.

When you are finished with your soak polish those toes.  We found this fun polish set at the Junior League Holiday Mart last year.  It includes 8 polish colors, with brushes.  The best part is that at the opposite end there is a fine tip pen to embellish your polished toes.  These are from www.miginailart.com.
